04/10/23 Lesson in the streets...what happened next will knock your socks off πŸ˜†πŸ˜†

Recent convert taught
some lessons with us!
 Happy P Dayyyyy!!!

There might be actual freaking fleas in my bed πŸ˜³  and I almost DIED... more on this in a second.

Last P day I taught more Latinos how to make smores (lol) they LOVED them.
On Wednesday I made two big pans of banana bread which disappeared in like 4 seconds. My comp says I need to stop feeling a need to take care of the elders and bake for them, and I don't necessarily understand why, but I feel obligated to bake for them, and besides that, I enjoy it πŸ˜† and I enjoy being the favorite hermana🀷‍♀️

Funny story: we were teaching someone on their doorstep, and like, we're in Hospicio, there's dogs everywhere! So, this one dog comes and umm... peed on my comp πŸ˜†πŸ˜† on her leg... and she didn't notice until she felt something very warm on her leg πŸ˜³πŸ˜† we were all dying from laughter. And the guy we were teaching was like, uh ill go get you some water to clean your leg with. And then we had to keep working for like 3 more hours in the streets after that, pobrecita mi compi πŸ₯²

I'm getting a hang of where everything is and which friends are actually progressing, and we were able to filter through some contacts and find some really cool people who have only been contacted once or twice, and we've been able to filter so we only have like 87 people who "are progressing."

Alto Hospicio things:
me dying after church with some friends haha
-we're about 20 minutes from the beach... but we're not allowed to go. But everyone is always talking about how pretty Iquique is, maybe one day I'll get to go.
-I have only found one bakery so far. It's a little on the expensive side, and I bake tastier things than the bakery does so πŸ€·‍♀️ I'll keep looking for another one.
-theres a papajohns, a Chinese food place, a sushi place, and many many completos places. And that one bakery.
-100000000+ street dogs
-ants, flies, gnats, fleas, possibly bed bugs. No matter how much I clean and spray bug spray, they will not go away.
-lunches in person every day... great for relationships! Not so great for your local picky eater πŸ₯² and not ALL the rice  here is good... and if I have to eat another egg this week I'm gonna cryπŸ˜†
(idk what happened but ever since I get Covid like 2 years ago I don't like eggs, the texture makes me want to throw up!
Chileans LOVE putting eggs in:
Empanadas
Salads
As a main dish
With Chinese food
Etc. )

Lunch with a member
It was the tastiest in a long time!
Something really interesting that happened is we found this guy and he's an inactive member, and he kind of went off the deep end from what I understand, for like 10 years, but he's coming back! And apparently has already had an interview with presidente de rama (branch president) and he invited us over and told us his story. It was a lot. And he also invited over like 4 of his friends to listen to us teach.
Well, the next day we went over to visit him again, and he showed us "music" that he's produced... which were rap. And they were pretty goodπŸ˜† I mean, they sounded about the same as any rap I've ever heard, although that's not really my thing πŸ€·‍♀️

On Sunday a recent convert spoke and they had a special musical number with a clarinet πŸ˜†

After church I started feeling really bad. Like, it was hard to be standing. And I was sooo cold. I somehow made it home and went straight up to bed... and took my temperature, 100⁰ and so I slept a ton. Had a fever of 101.2 at the highest, and I had the fever continuously from like noon sunday until like 5 in the morning this morning. Ever since then I've been all good though!!

Ice cream with same member
This week I've been thinking a lot about this talk I read by Elder Holland about how the 70s were the "me decade" and how a lot of culture changed during that time to be a lot more self centered and a lot less community centered. And sorry, I know this isn't centered in Easter and all the things about that even though it should be, but it's what's been on my mind this week πŸ™ƒ but anyways, with that devotional I've been thinking about the many ways I am selfish (we all are πŸ˜‰) and how I can work on being less selfish and more focused on loving others. I would like to (after my mission) take time to be involved in the community and serve others, even though I might be busy, even though I might have other things to do, it's so important to serve in callings with all the effort you can.
Another way to say this is like, don't expect anything from anyone... except yourself. That is to say, if no one is serving you, or if no one is helping you with your problems, don't be bitter that no one is helping you, just turn around and help others. I'm pretty sure that's what Pres Nelson's talk was about... I think it was his? Just that we need to be thinking less about ourselves, less about our own opinions and ideas and more about others.
There's another talk that was like, the moment you step out the door, stop thinking about yourself and think about others.
Another one said that humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking less about yourself. So that's the goal this week. Sorry if this doesn't make a lot of sense, I'm coming off a feverπŸ™ƒ
